Newest Member of the Family (or, the one who stole my heart)

On Sunday, January 9, my family welcomed home our newest and tiniest member: a cuddly, precious, six-week-old Yorkie terrier puppy.

(Like this, but cuter...)

After intense debate and some very witty suggestions, we compromised on the name Skipperdoodle, with abbreviations of Skipper, Skippy, and Skipperdee. Little Skipper has immediately and effortlessly captured the heart of every member of the family, from my (previously anti-dog) parents to our elementary school-ers.

He is so tiny that we are in constant fear that someone will step on him. The solution: we attached miniature cat bells (doggie bells were too big!) to his collar. Now we can hear an approaching jingle as he runs skipping about the house.

I don't want to be maudlin, and I've always secretly mocked those mushily sentimental dog-lovers who treat their pets like babies. But the miniature, floppy creature frolicking around my house is the cutest thing that's happened to me since my youngest sibling hit pre-school. I'll admit it, Skipper. I love you.

Oh, by the way, he's sitting on my lap as I type this. Lucky me. =)
