Over break, I watched the biopic La Vie en Rose starring the spectacular Marion Cotillard. It's no surprise that she won an Oscar for this role - though I found the film itself somewhat dragging and dark, Ms. Cotillard shone as French chanteuse Edith Piaf.
Born into extreme poverty, Piaf grew up singing on the streets of France before she became famous as "the voice of Paris". I especially loved this captivating ballad, which you may recognize from Inception. Without further ado, I present "Non, je ne regrette rien"
Best of all, the relatively simple language of this chanson allows me to understand it, even with my limited French. I love its message...(heavily paraphrased)
I regret nothing
Neither the good nor the evil that has befallen me
All is swept away, forgotten
Swept away are loves, memories
I need these no more
All my life and my joys
Begin today, with you.
C'est très, très belle.
Prettiest song ever, and I totes agree about the movie being dull/depressing. But dang can Marion Cotillard act. Post morrre please.
