Victory

I just left the library. I am walking on air.

Tess recently recommended ¨Beau Geste¨ to me (see 2 blog posts down) so I doubtfully decided to see if the Spanish library might have it in English. I checked the online catalogue. There are 8 copies. All in Spanish.

Undeterred, I asked a librarian for help. I spelled ¨Beau Geste¨ out for her, explaining that it was a French name. We had a fairly detailed conversation about the book´s possible location. Finally, she led me over to the tiny English Language section to double-check that it wasn´t there.

It wasn´t, but without skipping a beat the librarian motioned to the next shelf over. She explained that this shelf contained simple, abridged English texts, English dictionaries, and other materials that I might find helpful. As she walked away, I smiled and thanked her.

After a sizeable conversation, this Spanish librarian thought I was a native Spanish-speaker (read: fluent) who was checking out an English book to try to learn English.

This may be the greatest moment of my time in Toledo so far.
