“What is a poet? An unhappy man who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music.... And people flock around the poet and say: 'Sing again soon' - that is, 'May new sufferings torment your soul but your lips be fashioned as before, for the cry would only frighten us, but the music, that is blissful.”

― Soren Kierkegaard, Either/Or
I am nothing like Kierkegaard and disagree with him on many points. Nor am I a poet of any worth. This page is my practice ground, my essays. Whether they will bear fruit and be published elsewhere, time will tell.
Please note that this blog began in January 2010, when I was a wide-eyed college junior setting out to study abroad in Spain. The blog has had two iterations since then. Tiempo en Toledo/lillytoledo.blogspot.com was its initial name/URL, and it went by The Search for Something Beautiful (and an equivelent URL) for a time. The second one was inspired by Pope Benedict XVI's quote, "Life is not just a succession of events or experiences. It is a search for the true, the good, and the beautiful."
It's only been three years, but I have changed so much since this whole blog thing began. I think it's safe to say that even posts from one year ago represent a totally different person with a different line of thought. I have grown and changed more from Spring 2012 to Spring 2013 than I had in any other period of my life outside of infancy.
So please, please don't judge me too hard for the total inanity of some of my posts. I blush a little bit when I re-read them. But they are a part of me and, besides, no one other than me even reads this blog. So how bad can it be?
