Sweet Home

Home again for a month - possibly my last work-free break of life. Unless I someday stop working to have kids, or so. But that's hardly work-free. Let's just say that this may be my last break at home with no responsibilities.

My reaction? To enact my personal belief concerning true leisure, which is Josef Pieper's basis of culture.

Dreaming big (and slightly impractical) I have already begun to teach myself German and guitar daily while at home. (Stille Nacht...) I also have an enormous reading list and plans to write large amounts of both theses, as well as an article or two for student publications. And cook (I started last night with apple crisp, to my siblings' acclaim), watch old movies, laugh and talk with my dear family, re-unite with friends, celebrate Christmas...

Suddenly, it looks like this month-long break won't be enough. I'm glad to spend it home, sweet home.

  2. Hi Lilly!

I'm supposed to be teaching myself Italian, but I have not started yet. I never made it to our local library and it is now closed for another week. On the other hand, since I am recuperating from having my wisdom teeth pulled out (all four!), I've been trying to relearn how to knit. :)

  3. Hey dear, good luck with the Italian! I actually recommend going to Barnes&Noble or another big bookstore and checking out their Languages section. I found a great German-language program with book, workbook, and CDs for about $30. I've heard good things about the "Teach Yourself" language series ($20), and I'm using the "Living Language" set, which is quite good as well.

Hooray for learning to knit and spending leisure time well! And Happy New Year!!

    Much love, Lilly
