St. Blaise + Blues

Happy Feast of St. Blaise!

As per my wont, I attended the 5:15 Mass at Holy Name Cathedral. I also partook in the annual blessing of the throat, yet another example of how Catholics are awesome. For more examples, see here.

Grabbed a delicious falafel dinner at Nesh Grill with my old friend Dan (yes, I'm a stalker for finding his website). Dan is 100% awesome, as is his adorable girlfriend Kelly. I met Dan at the verrry start of freshman year. We were in an unforgettable golf class with the one and only Coach O'Sullivan.

Coach O'Sullivan excelled at calling us his "beautiful students," and telling us that "you're beautiful" or "that shot was beautiful," all in an old-man accent. He did not excel at teaching me golf. One day Dan noticed me determinedly trying to swing, and repeatedly failing: it turns out that I was using a left-handed club. He corrected me, and thus a friendship was born.

Anyhoo, we then peaced on back to Dan's apartment for beer. We also visited his awesome new hedgehog, Hermes:

Dan's hedgehog, Hermes. Also the moment when I officially became a creeper by pulling that pic from Dan's facebook.

At one point, we poured ourselves each a glass of old-school 1970s Cutty Sark Whiskey that Dan inherited from his Grandpa. Then we headed onto Dan's front balcony, and in the cold February weather we sat and smoked cigarettes while sipping our old-fashioned whiskey. Easily said, I'm as classy as they come.

We ended the night at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted, one of Lincoln Park's best and most eclectic dive bars.

One black, soulful blues band. One teensy dive bar. One groupon, allowing me and Dan to get in free and have one drink apiece. Plenty of drunk prepsters, but a biker crowd and hipster presence too. In short, everyone who loves blues. We stayed around for one set, and because it's me, we. definitely. hit. the dance floor. And danced the night away with all the other tipsy yuppies, while the older, black bassist just kindof laughed at our shenanigans.

Awesome night!
