Museos y Misas

Sarah R., John, and I have continued our Mass tradition. Yesterday we went to San Juan de los Reyes, a monastery and huge, ornate church. I have now hit up most of the churches in the city: San Andrés, Santo Tomé, La Catedral... Each is so uniquely beautiful.

During a break from classes, I decided to explore (what else?) and found the convent and museum of Santa Isabel. I rang the doorbell for the museum, and after a long delay a small, wizened woman opened the door and ushered me into the courtyard. I paid €1,90 and entered the small museum. I was definitely the only person there, and probably the only person to tour the museum that entire day. It consisted of various old religious statues and images, antique vestments and altar pieces, and wares from the daily lives of 15th and 16th century nuns. There were a few religious paintings by obscure artists, including a lovely mural of the Last Supper. Less pleasant were the relics on display, including a large bone of St. Sebastian. How do they go about extracting these things from saints´ bodies? Actually, I don´t want to know.
