Midnight Train to München

Et en Bavaria ego.

I left Paris and spent the night on an overnight train that passed through southern Germany. I spent most of the ride eating chocolate and listening to Interpol; they go really well with chocolate at 1 in the morning on a train in Germany, just FYI. I passed through a small village called Kissing, Germany - why has no one heard of this place before? I shared a compartment with a German radiologist, a French musician, and a mystery man who wordlessly fulfilled every stereotype of a German backpacker. The radiologist (from East Germany) mentioned being in college when the Berlin Wall came down; this is the year I was born. The other two seemed even older.

As day dawned I watched the sun rise over church spires and clustered villages framed by the far-off snowy Alps. I passed pine forests and green fields, German farmhouses in white and pale blue... it´s as beautiful as a picture and I wish I had more time here. In a few minutes, I´ll be on a train to Innsbruck.

  1. I'm glad that my musical influences on you are showing through here. And Interpol is the one I was iffy about you liking.
