On Tuesday mornings, Toledo merchants host an outdoor market near Puerta Bisagra. Absolutly everything is available for sale- clothes, kitchenware, jewlery, shoes, household linens. At first I wondered why the market is held on Tuesday, instead of a weekend day that is more accessible for tourists. Now I know why: Toledanos want to keep the market a secret. It is dirt cheap.
As Emily Whalen knows, I´ve been planning to buy a pair of black ankle boots and a satchel bag. I found cute boots at MaryPaz (favorite Spanish shoe store) for €19, and fell in love with a leather satchel (€30) at my favorite streetside vendor on Calle Santo Tomé. I decided, however, not to make a final purchase until I stopped by the market today.
SUCCESS. For a grand total of €25 (less than the bag by itself would have been) I found €5 black ankle boots, a black faux-leather satchel even cuter than the one by Santo Tomé, and a glamourously impractical sequined tunic that begs to appear in Madrid nightclubs.
It´s official: Toledo is the place for Spain´s best shopping.
Score! You'll have to wear the boots and bag to Dublin when you come!! :)
